BIRMINGHAM, MI
, April 19, 2016 – The Birmingham Farmers Market will return to Public Parking Lot 6 for its 14th season on Sunday, May 1. Warming temperatures, fresh baked foods and smiling faces will enhance the lively event, which is expected to draw thousands on Opening Day. Attendees will find fresh foods and flowers from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the market, located on the east side of North Old Woodward (across from Salvatore Scallopini Restaurant and just north of Booth Park). Attendees are encouraged to stop by the information booth for free balloons for children throughout Opening Day.

Returning this year are two certified organic farmers – East River Organics and Bird Creek Farms. New this year, Commonwealth Cafe will be at the market selling bottled iced coffee and packaged whole bean coffee. The market will welcome a new nut vendor, Almond R Nuts, who will feature cinnamon roasted almonds, pecans and cashews. The market will also welcome Birmingham resident Jim Leonard, who will be selling his handmade wooden cutting boards and kitchen accessories from his Tree Reform business. A variety of other new vendors will feature specialty dog treats and baked goods.

“Also new this year, we’re excited to introduce an all new logo and colorful new look as we kick off the 14th season of the market,” said BSD Executive Director John Heiney. “We’re looking forward to welcoming the community back as we celebrate Opening Day on May 1st.”

Special upcoming events at the market include: Chef Clash Sunday on June 26 (Birmingham’s top chefs will go head-to-head in a cooking competition live at the market), the Corn Festival on August 14 (featuring all things corn, with special crafts and old-fashioned corn shelling), the Harvest Festival on September 18 (celebrating the bounty of the Michigan harvest with a petting farm and antique machinery) and the End of Season Celebration on October 23 (held in conjunction with the Birmingham Pumpkin Patch & Halloween Parade). A special thank you to our 2016 Birmingham Farmers Market ‘Market Master’ sponsors: Scott Wilson – Max Broock and Wantify
