Principal Shopping District

Downtown Birmingham is a Principal Shopping District, created by a state law in 1992. As a Principal Shopping District, (PSD), Downtown Birmingham is part of the City of Birmingham. Its twelve-member Board is comprised of business owners and residents of Birmingham.

The primary mission of Downtown Birmingham is to promote a downtown that is active, attractive, clean, safe and pedestrian-oriented, and ensure that the downtown continues to serve as a center for business, service, social, cultural and community activities.
