BIRMINGHAM, MI, July 14, 2016 – Birmingham’s largest shopping day of the year, Day On The Town, will take place Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bargain-hunters will enjoy sale items throughout the downtown area, in addition to live entertainment, family activities, a car show and more!

The 10-Hour Sale!

Large crowds are expected from the entire Metro-Detroit area for the day’s top attraction – SALES! Birmingham merchants will place their discounted merchandise on display around the Maple and Old Woodward area from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. From shoes and apparel to home décor and jewelry, there’s something for everyone during Day On The Town. Old Woodward will be closed to traffic from Willits to Brown; Maple will be closed from Bates to Peabody. Attendees will enjoy free parking in all parking structures and free meters throughout the day. Select stores will continue their sidewalk sales the following day – Sunday, July 24.

Kids Bike Parade

The Kids Bike Parade will kick off Day On The Town promptly at 8:30 a.m. in front of City Hall. Children will have an opportunity to show off their wheels and participate in a bike decorating contest. Decorative bike categories include: Most Creative, Most Patriotic, Most Fashionable and Wackiest! Bicyclists will be led by the Birmingham Police Department. All participants are instructed to wear helmets. Thank you to KLM Bike & Fitness for sponsoring the Kids Bike Parade.

Live Entertainment

Enjoy live performances from three stages located around town. Featured guests include: The Birmingham Concert Band, Sinjon Smith, Sheila Landis, Chrissy Morgan, John Latini, Mia Green, Pete Fetters and students from Axis Music Academy.

Corvette Generations Car Show

Again this year, the North Oaks Corvette Club will host a “Corvette Generations” car show. This is a juried car show with prizes, 50/50 raffle and more.  For more information, visit www.northoakscorvetteclub.com.

Children’s Activities

Children and families will be delighted with activities throughout the day. A Kids Zone will be set up on Maple east of Old Woodward from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a children’s craft tent. Kids Zone hosts include Birmingham Youth Assistance, Born Yoga and the Birmingham United Hockey Association.  A bounce house and miniature golf are scheduled from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. near the Kids Zone. Strolling entertainment including Bill the Magician, a favorite in Birmingham, will be performing throughout downtown during the event.

Bonus for Poke’mon Go Trainers:  Birmingham boasts more than two dozen PokeStops and several gyms, so come on out and “catch ‘em all!”
