 “Shifting from student to professional can be tricky. As a student, you gain skills for the profession you are perusing, but don’t always know exactly how to apply them. Finding an internship to help understand what it’s like in a professional workplace has been incredibly beneficial to provide a smooth transition for me. Fortunately, I was offered an internship with the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber for the summer. So far, it has been incredibly beneficial and I feel very privileged to have earned the opportunity.
Now that I have completed half the time I will be spending as the intern for the chamber, I have learned ways to be successful in and out of the workplace. The chamber has helped me reach a balance of completing the task at hand and being a proactive employee. Specifically, I have daily activities like posting news on our website and social media pages. I also complete tasks like attending important meetings, distributing promotional items throughout the area for events and writing press releases to recap events” states Fettig.
